We are all watching in real time as federal immigration enforcement agents are causing devastation to communities across this country. We understand the feeling of helplessness as we witness the violence and tragedy that has unfolded in Minneapolis. Our hearts ache for the families of Alex Pretti and Renée Good and the senseless loss of life.

Now is the time for us to stand in solidarity and act locally.

Advocating for state-level legislation to protect the rights of immigrants is one of the key ways people can get involved right now.

We urge residents to contact the Governor, Senate and Assembly leaders and your own local Senate and Assembly members to call for passage of New York for All (NY4ALL) immediately. NY4ALL would broadly prohibit state and local officers from enforcing federal immigration laws, funneling people into ICE custody, and sharing sensitive information with federal immigration authorities except when required by law or a judicial warrant.

We also encourage you to join our work with the CARE for Immigrant Families campaign to invest $175 million in immigration legal services, pass the Access to Representation Act, and pass the Building Up Immigrant Legal Defense (BUILD) Act. Our coalition is planning a day of action on Tuesday, February 3rd in Albany. Please join us in person if you can or call your representatives to express your support.
